The ballots have been tabulated and the 2018 AJFF Audience Awards presented by the Helen Marie Stern Memorial Fund have been announced. AJFF is proud to reveal our 2018 Audience Award winners for Best Narrative, Best Documentary, and Best Short.
Best Narrative: The Last Suit
An aging, cantankerous Jewish tailor leaves his life in Argentina to embark on a journey back through time and halfway around the world, to find the man who saved him from death at Auschwitz, in this bittersweet, wistful road movie.
Best Documentary: Itzhak
This impressionist, fly-on-the-wall portrait, including an intimate view of his family at home, examines the life and glorious music of Israeli-born Itzhak Perlman, widely considered the greatest living violinist.
Best Short: The Number on Great-Grandpa's Arm
A young boy’s tender questions about his great-grandfather’s tattooed arm sparks an intimate and emotional conversation about historical tragedy and personal perseverance.
The annual audience awards are a wonderful tradition at AJFF. After each screening, attendees complete a short tear ballot, with scores tallied and adjusted to a 4-point scale. Audience Award winning films receive a custom made statuette after the festival.
