About The Film

An Israeli retiree seeks to restore his sense of purpose in this tender, lovingly observed Haifa Film Festival top prize winner. In a clever bit of casting, writer-director Oren Gerner’s own parents play semi-fictional versions of themselves. Slipping into the sunset of his life, the crusty but softhearted Meir (Meir Gerner) now toils away in his toolshed crafting a bed for his grandson. While his wife remains active, the former engineer is devastated when a younger generation takes over organizing a traditional community ceremony. Disillusionment gives way to quiet rebellion, Meir’s broodings punctuated by home movies of a past vacation to Namibia. This low-key cinematic gem offers a profound contemplation on aging and transition.
