Futures Past

About The Film

An adroit, raw depiction of family strife set against the fast-changing financial world, FUTURES PAST poignantly portrays the currency of human transactions, both on and off the trading floor. After initial success in Hollywood, filmmaker Jordan Melamed returns home divorced and defeated, seeking catharsis by filming his imperious father, Leo, the former chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. Following a crash course in high-stakes financial futures trading, now in the traumatic throes of modernization, a stormy relationship between father and son plays out on camera. Defensive Leo is loath to discuss their differences, or his tragic childhood as a Polish-born refugee from Nazi Europe. As painful truths emerge and personal scores are settled, both men struggle to get beyond their fraught past toward forgiveness and understanding.
