About The Film
Seeking human connection after the war, two emotionally fragile Holocaust survivors of different generations forge a delicate bond in this exquisitely crafted, superbly performed Hungarian drama. Middle-aged doctor Aladár (Károly Hajduk) lives in quiet solitude, having lost his family in the camps. His haunted, lonely existence is upended by the arrival of a precocious patient, 16-year-old Klára (Abigél Szőke). In angry denial over her parents’ fate, the vulnerable, needy girl quickly forms a surrogate relationship with the much older man. As these unlikely soulmates discover in each other a reason to go on, their chaste relationship teeters on impropriety, while a new Stalinist threat begins to take shape. Hungary’s Oscar entry for Best International Feature.
